In the night of 14 July of 2021, the Ahr, a river that flows into the Rhein, flooded, and caused the biggest natural disaster in its recent history. To paint the picture: the last measurement of the water level by the tide gauges (before they were carried away) was 5,75 meters. The destruction was immeasurable, and there was no way the official disaster relief organizations were going to be able to respond in numbers that were needed. Volunteers from all over Germany came to help clean up what afterwards was determined to be over 350000 tons of rubble, and another 53000 tons of mud. The Apex team was one of those first volunteer responder groups. We closed our doors in Nürburg, reached out to people through our social media outlets, organized ourselves, and the reaction to our initiative was overwhelming. There were people that drove for over 800 kilometers or took multiple days off work to venture out with us, and many more donated money, tools, hygiene products, food and drinks. With the monetary donations, we bought generators, IBC tanks and light installations. Ford Germany even sent us 3 brand-new vans to travel to the hit areas and move tools. We ended up aiding well over 30 households, businesses and even a school, and could not have done it without the eager and tireless volunteers and donators. Thank you!

The pandemic has us all at our wits ends. Every day, new developments in the statistics force the authorities to add new, adapt old and review overarching strategies to prevent the further spread of the virus.
We often get asked about very specific travel paths and all the implications for the individual traveler. As we always want to help, we have noticed that there is no simple, easy-accessible and encompassing information available. Most websites are often in German and cluttered.

As it currently stands, there are a variety of regions in Europe and the rest of the world that will require you to take a mandatory COVID-19-PCR test, as well as quarantine yourself upon arrival to Germany.

In the past few weeks, we have often been asked if we have any intel regarding the current health restrictions, and when they will be lifted. Although we wish it was different, we cannot foresee how the current situation will evolve in the near future, how government institutions will react, and the track management thereupon. But it’s not all bad news!

Due to more and more events still being cancelled, the Nürburgring management takes this opportunity to fill the opened up slots for public driving, albeit under the same “contactless” rules (https://www.apex-nuerburg.com/covid-19-updates/) as before.

An even more elaborate procedure has been brought into life for the NLS (the Nürburgring Langstrecke Serie), formerly known as the VLN and the biggest endurance series at Nürburgring, to be able to take place. For starters, all races are taking place without spectators, and with a social distancing plan in place that does not only spreads apart the pit crews, but the whole teams, including the race cars. Whereas normally the pit boxes are shared with up to 6 teams in 1 race, there has now been created a make-shift pit lane behind the pit boxes, on the parking where normally the team trucks would be. Eventough this sounds like a logistical nightmare, the NLS organisation has successfully implemented this new set-up, and the NLS 2 and 3 had about 150 starters on the grid.

Regarding our rentals and taxis, not much has changed (https://www.apex-nuerburg.com/apex-taxi-laps-are-a-go/), except for we are doing instructions again! We also love our BMW M3 GT and cherish it for the unique experience it has brought to the Nürburgring taxi fleet: the real feel of a well-build street legal race car, from the back bucket seat. Unfortunately, we cannot take more than 1 passenger in our taxis currently, and we’ve decided we want to offer all future bookers a deal! Lastly, we are always actively on the case regarding any changes to the Nordschleife schedules, and will have our website and booking platforms as up-to-date as possible. Seeing that the Rad am Ring event has been recently cancelled, we can share with you that both 25 and 26 July now have a full-day public session planned. The Friday session of 24 July also starts earlier (at 16:00), making this a great weekend to come out and get some quality laps in.

• Taxi laps will start from the Apex HQ (Hauptstraße 25, 53520 Nürburg).
• Only 1 passenger per car is allowed. That means that the BMW M3 GT 4-seater will also only take up to 1 co-pilot per ride.
• Please bring something to cover your mouth and nose. Also the driver will be wearing a mask. Stay at a safe distance (1,5 meters) on the premises.
• The Apex staff will perform thorough disinfections between laps.

COVID-19 updates
The Nürburgring has announced the “contactless concept”, allowing them to open the track, but under strict regulations. We applaud and support this initiative, and we will cooperate by passing on these new rules;

– Drivers and passengers are not allowed to leave the (rental) car on any parking of the Nürburgring.
– A maximum of 2 people per vehicle are allowed per day.
– There is a designated resting area at the old paddocks. Keep your distance and wear masks.

Due to these regulations, but also for your safety of that of our drivers and instructors, we cannot offer taxi laps or instructions laps until these regulations are lifted. We subject our rental cars to an extensive disinfection process, which makes renting out cars possible.
If you need any help rescheduling your laps, do not hesitate to contact us. We are also actively working out the possibilities regarding pre-bookings, and will reach out to you in case their are any discrepancies.
